In September 2018 I underwent extensive surgery that took 12 hours and involved 3 surgeons. I was told of the positive outcome but also things that could go wrong. The one thing I held onto, aside from the love for my sons and family and friends, was that the surgeons were amazed at my level of fitness and this would stand me in good stead. I have Amanda Peskett of A P Fitness to thank for this.

My op actually turned out to be 18 hours long. For the first 2 weeks I couldn’t stand or walk. I had to have 6 weeks of treatment which greatly affected my energy levels and much as I wanted to return to training, I wasn’t sure this would ever happen. Eventually with encouragement from Amanda and my family I started back training. I needed to go somewhere I felt comfortable, where no-one else would observe my struggles and disappointment if I couldn’t manage what I did before. A P Fitness ticked all the boxes, with a well kitted out gym in the privacy of her own home, with someone who believed I could get back to where I was before my op. Amanda gave me the support, encouragement, training, and belief in myself which I very much needed. Needless to say, I’m going from strength to strength. I now train with Amanda twice a week, and also attend her Fit To Climb class at Todmorden climbing centre. It’s enjoyable and at times highly hilarious! Just remember ‘your body is remarkable’ you have to keep fit and active and give it a helping hand, and it will be there for you in times of need, as you never know what’s around the corner. With fitness instructors like Amanda on your side who are really dedicated in what they do, you are already onto a winner. Thank you, Amanda!
